About Katherine

I began my training in1979 with a clinical psychologist and trained hypnotherapist.

In 1981, I attained a diploma in hypnotherapy from the Institute of Psychology and Parapsychology.

My first practice began in 1981 as the Centre for Corrective Hypnosis.

By 1984 two GP practices were engaging my service as a hypnotherapist for patients with conditions of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), smoking cessation, tension states and insomnia.

I moved to Devon in 1987 with the view to giving my children clean air, and set up my practice anew!

In 1993 I joined the National Council of Psychotherapist’s Hypnotherapy Register. This is now the National Council for Hypnotherapy.

In 2004 I completed a seven year degree with the Open University and received a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Psychology.

The National Council is now affiliated with their American counter-part the National Guild of Hypnotists, the largest recognised body in the US.

As of 2007, I am a Certified Hypnotist with the National Guild of Hypnotists and attend their yearly multi-faceted and hugely informative workshops for continued professional development.

Media Coverage

In December 2003 Professor Kathy Sykes, along with Granada television, came to film me treating a client with Dental Phobia for a TV programme called ‘The Truth About – Fear’.

My client was filmed whilst having a calming hypnosis session. Then her heart rate was monitored as they filmed her making an appointment and subsequently visiting her dentist for treatment. They found that she was able to make the ‘phone call and attend the dentist, remaining much calmer and less stressed than her usual avoidance of both events without any hypnosis session. This amongst other issues was discussed during my interview with BBC Radio Devon’s Judi Spiers. To listen to this see my Audio page.

I helped her. I can help you! Why not Contact Me?
